Tactful Thursday: 4 Parenting Styles

During the pandemic, jobs were highly impacted and many people were facing layoffs. If you are a parent, it's a job that has kept you highly occupied and maybe even increased your stress level as we have pioneered through the uncertainty of 2020.  Virtual learning, no childcare options, budgeting, loss of income, etc. has rocked our world as parents the last year. However, we know better than anyone how to dig into our energy reserves and push ourselves forward to ensure our kids are taken care of despite the  internal conflicts that plague us. In the past, I wrote a blog on 4 parenting types. Today, we'll discuss 4 parenting styles. I like talking about different types of parents because a child's upbringing is so vital to their adulthood. It fascinates me how children are molded to be different types of individuals. First, we'll learn about the Authoritarian parenting style. This parenting style is pretty strict and upholds rules. These parents aren't considered nurturing and don't consider their children's ouput. Our next parenting style is Permissive. If you have a permissive parenting style you won't see the need for strict rules and keep things light with your child. Permissive parents communicate with their children openly and are warm towards their children. Uninvoled parenting on the other hand is less pleasant. There are no boundaries in place. Children are treated with contempt and are misguided. The last parenting style is Authoritative. This parenting style is a good balance of rules and nurturing. Children are taught expectations and good communication skills. The child's output is valued and they're taught a balance of good behavior.
