Youtubing

YouTube has become modern day cable with a comment section. There's a plethora of content and channels to choose from. I tend to get on YouTube very often throughout my day. There's always someone with a post. I like anything from gossip celebrity channels to serious financial channels and of course music videos by my favorite artist. I even learned how to braid my hair from the natural hair videos available. Here's a list of my favorite channels, check out some of them when you get a chance. 1.) Lovelyti : OMG, I love watching Lovelyti. She has really informative videos on pop culture and a lot of intuitive knowledge she shares on the daily basis. I started out watching her news channel, where she'd report crazy bizarre stories that you wouldn't normally hear about. On top of that she's an entrepreneur with a skin line and tea company. Check her out some time if you haven't heard of her. 2.) ColorMePynk: I love this channel because Keisha is so hilario

Are you Financially Literate?

No, in all honesty I wouldn't say so for myself.  Financial literacy wasn't a topic of discussion in my household. My mother was forced out of work due to her health conditions when I was 5. Besides knowing she was on a fixed income, I didn't know a lot about the world of finances. She had taught me how to count money very early and I found fascination in saving money as a kid. It was always cool to see how much more money I had than my older brother. My mom did talk to me about saving change and letting it accumulate instead of just throwing it around on the floor or in the car somewhere Once I was a teenager, my mom had lost her eyesight and she'd have me write down our expenses and deduct it from her income. In school, I had brief lessons on interest and how it works. Overall, upon becoming an adult the only thing I knew was I had to figure out a way to go to college so I can have a good job. The only issue I found out was that I had $0 for college saved. I had star

Tactful Thursday: 4 Parenting Styles

During the pandemic, jobs were highly impacted and many people were facing layoffs. If you are a parent, it's a job that has kept you highly occupied and maybe even increased your stress level as we have pioneered through the uncertainty of 2020.  Virtual learning, no childcare options, budgeting, loss of income, etc. has rocked our world as parents the last year. However, we know better than anyone how to dig into our energy reserves and push ourselves forward to ensure our kids are taken care of despite the  internal conflicts that plague us. In the past, I wrote a blog on 4 parenting types. Today, we'll discuss 4 parenting styles. I like talking about different types of parents because a child's upbringing is so vital to their adulthood. It fascinates me how children are molded to be different types of individuals. First, we'll learn about the Authoritarian parenting style. This parenting style is pretty strict and upholds rules. These parents aren't consid

Is Colorism Killing Your Self Esteem?

From childhood, little girls are conditioned to love compliments. Families coddle their daughters with terms like "Pretty" "Sweetie" "Beautiful" "Adorable" etc. Little girls are taught to be feminine and soft hearted. They're taught to keep their hair kempt, and clothes polished. As those little girls are growing up, they are bombarded by the mainstream media's perception of beauty. It's in magazines, on television, on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and many other popular sites. For young black women there seem to be an added layer of pressure as they grow older. The strong impact of European beauty standards  continue to be displayed in a lot of prominent celebrities and social media influencers. There isn't much representation of the diverse looks in black culture. Most of the time a woman of lighter complexion with finer facial features and long hair is the "token" representation of beauty in the mainstream media f

5 Things My 4A/4B Natural Hair Can't Live Without

Natural hair is often categorized into 4 major types with sub categories in each type. Type 4 natural hair is often described as coily or kinky. It's believed to be prone to breakage, short in length, hard to grow, and extremely dry. Honestly, some descriptions of type 4 have me cocking my head to the side in confusion. However, everyone's hair is different so I don't take things I read too seriously when it comes to natural hair. It's a lot of opinions out there mixed in with facts. My hair has new growth like crazy so I don't have a hard time growing my hair. Moisturizing my hair is another battle, but it's been getting easier as I put in more effort to learn what works best on my hair and how to manage it. Also, I'm aware of the war on ingredients in some products. I think everyone should do what fits their narrative when it comes to their hair. I've been able to manage my type 4 hair best by wearing 2 strand twists and other protective styles lik

Birthday Came and Went

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! I'm excited that today was my birthday! I'm extremely grateful to God for being alive and enjoying time with my family. I didn't plan anything elaborate this year. Truthfully, I wasn't much in the mood to go out with my mask tightly stuck to my face as I try to enjoy time dining out with a restricted number of friends and family members. Instead I spent my day indulging in Japanese food and cheesecake at home. Life has been really busy lately so I've tried my best to rest and relax today. Chronic ankle issues has me limping around the house and pulling out old braces. My husband is gearing up for barber school so we've been filling out forms and trying to organize lists of supplies. We've also been working super hard on launching social media content for our boutique. So next time you're on Instagram, feel free to follow our boutique page WealthRaceClothing . It's still under construction, so it's not finished just yet.

"Major Themes"

First off, Happy New Year! We're all so blessed to see another day to be great and exert excellence in the lives God has given us. In November, I released my debut book, "Grasp tha Limelight". I want to take some time to discuss some of the themes in my book. My book encompasses the life of Jessica Everett, as she is falling in love with a rising RnB singer. Falling victim to the affection of Avon, Jessica starts losing herself in the pursuit of his love. So lust is one of the main themes in my book. Many of the characters find themselves fighting against their desires. Once they cave into their desires, undesirable consequences take place. Masochism is another major theme present in the story. Masochism is when a person feels like some form of pain (not physical pain) is necessary for them to feel satisfied. This is the premise of Jessica and Avon relationship. Toxicity follows behind masochism, and is apparent throughout Jessica's family dynamic. Grief makes an e
